“My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to Celine and her family on the passing of René. He fought a long hard battle,” McEntire shared on Twitter and Instagram, referring to Angelil’s terminal cancer. He was diagnosed in April 1998.
Songwriter Diane Warren, who collaborated with Dion on Grammy-winning hit “Because You Loved Me,” also paid tribute to Angelil, who discovered Dion when she was just 12 years old. “Rene Angelil Rest in peace. Thank U for Celine + for giving her my songs Thank U for everything + I'm hoping there r casinos in Heaven RIP Rene,” she tweeted.
