Guardiola & Begiristain meet in Amsterdam to step up Man City plans
The soon-to-be Manchester City boss and his old ally were photographed at the Conservatorium hotel in the Dutch capital on Monday as they step up their plans for the Blues.
Incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had a meeting with Blues sporting director Txiki Begiristain in Amsterdam on Monday as the two step up their plans for the club.
Guardiola will take over at the Etihad Stadium from Manuel Pellegrini this summer and has already sanctioned a team of representatives to begin discussions with certain City first teamers.
Those meetings have been shrouded in secrecy but his latest, supposedly clandestine, summit was sprung by Dutch photographers.
Guardiola met with old ally Begiristain, his former team-mate and, later, employer at Barcelona, at the Conservatorium hotel in the Dutch capital on Monday.
Dutch media claim Riechedly Bazoer, the 19-year-old Ajax midfielder, and Jetro Willems, the PSV left-back, were on the agenda.
Bazoer rejected City's overtures in 2012 when he left PSV, but has been linked with a move to the Blues this summer in recent weeks. Chelsea are also said to be interested.
City's chief targets this summer are Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and centre-backs John Stones, of Everton, and Aymeric Laporte, of Athletic Bilbao.
Those three players would cost well in excess of £100 million, and it would make sense for City to secure further reinforcements, such as the two Dutchmen linked, for smaller fees.
That was the case last summer, when City spent around £150m on Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi, but supplemented the squad with the captures of Fabian Delph, for £8m, and youngster Patrick Roberts, for up to £11m.
