Audio Attached Passengers’ manifest: FRSC warns commercial motorists against negligence NAN-DS-3 Manifest Enugu, Jan. 25, 2016 (NAN) Mr Samuel Obayemi, the FRSC’s Zonal Commander in Enugu, has warned commercial motorists to desist from embarking on long journeys without having passengers’ manifests.
The passengers’ manifest is a document which has passenger’s name, blood group, contact address, phone number, destination as well as passenger’s next-of-kin’s name, address and phone number. He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) on Monday in Enugu that motorists found to have ignored passengers’ manifests would be liable to an offence as prescribed by law.
Cue in audio “For fleet operators, it is, of course, an offence for you to drive without a manifest. “But again, in as much as we are trying to check some of these excesses by the drivers, we keep emphasising the fact that the passengers also have a role to play.
Each time we stop an overloaded vehicle, the question we ask the passengers – are you comfortable the way you are sitting down? Are you being driven from one point to another free of charge? The answer is no.’’ Cue out audio Obayemi, who is the zonal commander in charge of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, said that the commission would not hesitate to punish any erring commercial motorists.
He called on commercial transport operators to keep their vehicles in good order at all times. NAN reports that passengers’ manifest is one of the document needed in the event of an accident for administering first aid to victims or providing contact address in the case of death. (NAN)
